Sea Turtle Nesting on the Space Coast Breaking Records
October 10, 2025 – Did you know that the beaches in Brevard County are home to some of the most important sea turtle nesting grounds in the world? Here’s another reason to keep the sand clean of litter and cigarette butts – that stuff is no good for the environment.
INCREDIBLE Sea Turtle Season in Brevard County!
Our beaches have been making waves for conservation! The September 2025 nesting numbers are in, and they speak volumes about the health of our coastal ecosystem.
So far, Brevard County beaches have hosted:
20,401 Green Turtle nests – the SECOND-HIGHEST season on record!
10,615 Loggerhead nests – these gentle giants continue to thrive
52 Leatherback nests – the ocean’s largest turtles
1 Kemp’s Ridley nest – a rare and precious visitor
These numbers represent thousands of baby sea turtles making their way to the ocean, a testament to decades of conservation work, protected habitats, and our community’s commitment to keeping beaches dark and safe during nesting season.
Every nest counts. Every turtle matters. Every person makes a difference. Thank you to all the researchers, volunteers, and beachgoers who help protect these ancient mariners.
