Indian River Lagoon Coalitions to hold Jan. 24 event in Melbourne

The Brevard Indian River Lagoon Coalition, a nonprofit environmental group, will hold a “Save Our Lagoon Update,” Tuesday, Jan. 24, to celebrate the Nov. 8 passage of the half-cent-per-dollar sales tax to clean up the lagoon.
The event is free and open to the public at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24 at Front Street Civic Center,
2205 Front St., in Melbourne.
Many of the 30 organizations involved with restoring the lagoon will provide displays, information and volunteer opportunities.
A brief program will feature updates from Brevard County Director of Natural Resources Virginia Barker; Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program Executive Director Duane DeFreese; Coalition Co-President Mel Martin; and an introduction of the vice-chair of the newly formed Citizen Oversight Committee, John Byron.
Refreshments will be provided at no charge.
