Key Findings from the Keep America Beautiful 2026 National Litter Study
• Every American’s share of the litter problem just dropped from 152 pieces to 96 – showing measurable progress but not mission accomplished.
• Overall litter declined 34% along U.S. roadways and waterways.
• Nearly 90% of Americans feel personal responsibility to reduce litter, and 93% agree it’s a shared community responsibility.
• Only 31% of Americans recall seeing litter-prevention messaging, revealing significant untapped potential for education and engagement.
• 92% of Americans agree that cleaning and greening America should be a priority as the country approaches its 250th birthday.
Volunteers Rack Up Impressive April Stats
May 4, 2026 – Volunteers attacked trash with a vengeance in April with a great turn-out for the annual TRASH BASH event. These totals can then be added to the continuing efforts at Hotspots and by the Adoption Teams.

Volunteers from all over Brevard – Cocoa, Titusville, Rockledge, Port Canaveral, Satellite Beach, Melbourne, Merritt Island, Malabar and West Melbourne – answered the call and picked up some major garbage, living up to the name of the event: TRASH BASH. In this friendly competition where we all win, Cocoa took the bragging rights. Take a look:

KBB’s Litter Quitter program, in partnership with the Brevard Zoo, aims to reduce or eliminate plastics and polystyrene foam in Brevard County businesses. Volunteers are needed to recruit businesses, distribute marketing materials and explain the program.
