The Blue Wave Campaign
What is the Blue Wave® Campaign?
The Blue Wave Campaign is America’s first environmental certification for beaches. The goal of Blue Wave is to promote public awareness and voluntary participation in maintaining clean and healthy beaches.
What is a certified clean beach?
A certified clean beach is a Blue Wave designated beach that is managed responsibly, with a focus on protection of human health and the environment. Clean beaches are relatively free of litter, have handicap accessibility and public restroom facilities, clearly demonstrate to the public laws and information on the beach and its management, and have swimmable waters.
The Blue Wave Campaign establishes twenty-two criteria for the certification of a beach to be named a Blue Wave Beach. These criteria represent attributes preferred by discerning citizens and travelers.
Patterned after popular and well-established European initiatives, the Blue Wave Campaign aims to promote beaches that are managed to protect their natural assets as well as to assist in identifying the nation’s cleanest and safest beaches for vacationers.
Keep Brevard Beautiful and the Brevard County Tourist Development Council recognize the importance of establishing Brevard County beaches as the destinations of visitors from all over the world. Approved by the Brevard County Board of County commissioners and the Tourist Development Council, the Blue Wave Campaign will be designated for the following beaches upon certification by the Clean Beaches Council.
Blue Wave beaches voluntarily pledge to uphold the following responsible beach management practices: water quality, beach and intertidal conditions, safety, services, habitat conservation, public information/education, and erosion management.
