BACK TO BASICS: RECYCLING 101
While we are all staying at home for our safety and the safety of others now is the time to keep the brain active instead of scrolling through facebook or instagram for 10 hours a day. So here is a refresher on what can and can’t be recycled from your most used items during this stay at home period, presented in the most fun way possible!
The first material being an aluminum can. So that la croix that you’ve been drinking, the diet coke and yes even the white claw cans, should all go into your recycling bin. (HOT TAKE: Instead of recycling your cans. Upcycle them and create something beautiful – like this can that was turned into a tealight holder).
Arguably the most talked about material when recycling: plastics. I can talk about recycling plastics for hours on end, lucky for you here I won’t be doing that. During quarantine I’ve been doing a lot of snacking, like everyone else, Quarantine 15 here we come!! My go to snack so far has been oreos and milk (I highly recommend). Yes you are right you can recycle your empty milk jug that you made your parents get for the 2nd time this week because you don’t know portion control! The point I’m trying to make here is that you can and should recycle your milk jugs. Now maybe you’re the complete opposite of me and haven’t been wearing the same pajamas for the past 4 days (this is a joke I promise I change my clothes, everyone!) and have enough clothes to do laundry. Which means you have to use detergent by the name of this blog post, I hope you guys know what I’m going to say next… Yes! You can recycle your laundry detergent bottle – as long as it is somewhat clean inside meaning there isn’t leftover residue.
While I hope everyone uses all the toilet paper they panic bought don’t throw away the roll, upcycle it! I’ve found myself trying to organize a lot of the things around my house and found these pretty interesting hacks when it comes to toilet paper rolls if you want to upcycle instead of recycle. Like most people I’ve been trying to support local business and restaurants and order takeout from them but it comes at a cost as I know have countless to go containers (that I try to reuse) or just have to throw away BUT luckily for you guys I have found this INSANELY amazing way to upcycle a chinese takeout container. If any of you try it pretty please tag us (@kbbbrevard on instagram) because I NEED to see this in action. And of course what kind of person would I be if I didn’t mention making seed starting trays made once again out of all the toilet paper rolls!
Now that our brains are refreshed on some things we can recycle and ways to upcycle other materials. I hope everyone stays safe, healthy and at home – Happy Earth Week!
P.s. – here are some fun coloring sheets for the kiddos to keep them occupied for a little while
