Summer Series Event #1

The Summer Series event kicked off on June 15th at the Kiwanis Island Park in Merritt Island. Over 90 volunteers showed up to help us excel at cleaning along the river! We had plenty of kayaks to go around and they were provided by A Day Away Kayaks, Calypso Kayaking Tours, Ballard Boards, and Village Outfitters. We packed the 20 yard roll-off with all kinds of trash, but our favorite find was the broken paddle boat that Deputy Executive Director, Bryan Bobbitt, hacked away at to relieve some of the water for easier moving on land! There was .58 tons of trash collected that day! We had an amazing after-party at PizzaVola of Cocoa Beach, the provided an awesome buffet that was so delicious and we are very impressed with their great service. They had sectioned off a part of their restaurant just for our party. We will definitely be speaking highly of them, and we look forward to the next after-party there! Thank you so much to everyone that participated!

Summer Series Event #2

Though we were wary about the oncoming storms, our second event started on June 29th without a hitch at Parrish Park in Titusville. Over 140 volunteers made it out for the morning with bright and happy faces. Kayakers set off at about 8:30am that morning, with kayaks provided by A Day Away Kayaks and Ballard Boards. Staff watched as volunteers paddled out to Fire Island of the Titusville Spoil Islands, and it was such a great sight to see. Even though though the morning started out great, the thunder rolled in and called for a quick getaway from everyone. Kayakers moved back to main land, and we were packed up an hour early. But even being pushed away by the looming rain clouds, we still collected half a dump truck of trash, hauled away courtesy of College Hunks Hauling Junk! Our favorite item found at this event was a 1960’s era glass Pepsi bottle, fully intact, found by dedicated volunteer Paul Kamus! The after party was held at the Playalinda Brewing Company- Hardware Store, and we want to give special thanks to these great people that are always more than happy to help with our event. They opened their store early for the soaked (because it started raining hard) volunteers, and happily fed and watered everyone! Keep Brevard Beautiful can’t do what we do if it weren’t for these amazing people, the sponsors and the volunteers!
