Space Shuttle Atlantis Attraction Awarded LEED Certification
In June 2013, Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, operated for NASA by Delaware North, opened the $100 million, 90,000-square-foot Space Shuttle AtlantisSM attraction. In July 2015, KSC Visitors Complex was awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certification for the attraction, marking the fourth LEED Certified structure on the KSC Visitors Complex campus.
The goal for construction of the Space Shuttle Atlantis facility was to adhere to LEED Silver Certification standards and Sustainable Sites guidelines to minimize the environmental footprint of the new structure and maximize the sustainability efforts as prescribed by Delaware North’s award-winning GreenPath® environmental management program. In addition to following environmentally-guided design standards through LEED, Delaware North has committed to the globally-recognized ISO 14001 standards for driving continual improvement in environmental performance of its operations.
