Brevard County Renews Contract with KBB for 3 Years

Aug. 12, 2024 – From Florida Today: Brevard County is renewing its contract with Keep Brevard Beautiful for causeway cleanup efforts, an initiative designed to maintain the county as a tourist destination. Keep Brevard Beautiful is contracted by the county to pick up trash along the major causeways in keeping with tourist demand.

The 3-year contract with an option for a 2-year extension was renewed Tuesday by the Board of County Commissioners to maintain the five major causeways in Brevard County.

Keep Brevard Beautiful estimates that it collects 900 tons of total trash annually including 44 tons of trash collected from along the causeways leading to and from Brevard’s beaches.

Under the new contract, Keep Brevard Beautiful will be charged with cleanup on the major causeways, including State Road 406, State Road 528, State Road 520, State Road 518 and Highway 192, and this year, the Pineda Causeway will be added.

Keep Brevard Beautiful is largely a volunteer-driven organization removing trash from around the county while the non-profit provides materials and organization for many community-based, volunteer efforts.

The organization pointed out that tourism is growing expansively in the county with the many launches, cruise ships and continued economic growth in the county, meant the need for cleanup along the major causeways and beaches would only go up as well.
